Thing 18: Social Media #2
Through completing this ‘thing ‘I feel like I have been able to see how the organisation and the SSSC use Social media and the pros and cons of its use.
I have read the link : Social Care Meets Social Media: What’s Holding the Sector Back? And I have researched what social media platforms the organisation I work for uses. The organisation I work for only uses Facebook. (https://www.facebook.com/sbcouncil) I could not find a twitter page or any other social media platforms. The information on the Facebook page is updated daily with relevant posts for the whole local Authority Area. This is a positive use of Facebook as up to date information is on the page and easy to find. I have saw this information being shared by Facebook friends also so it is easy to share and inform others. I think that twitter is another large platform for sharing information, and I am surprised that the organisation does not have an account. I feel this would be beneficial as many people use Twitter but not Facebook. I think the Facebook page is a good way of sharing information but it is not very targeted towards a certain area, as the Council is spread over the borders. To find information you are looking for you need to search for it or scroll back to find relevant posts.
I was not aware that The SSSC were on as many social media platforms before completing this ‘thing’. I was interested to see posts such as this: (https://www.instagram.com/p/B1tl8WsF_UL/) as I feel that it would be an interesting discussion to be part of, whether that be in person of a session could be done digitally. I have followed the SSSC Facebook page for a while but I found it useful to know that there are other social media platforms being used as I personally use Instagram more.
