Thing 11: Twitter
My workplace/organisation do not have a twitter account. I wanted to see how easy it is to gather information without having an account and if this is a tool, I could pass on to colleagues. I went to the twitter homepage and tried to find the search bar but this would not allow me to go onto twitter without signing up. I could not use twitter to gather information without having an account.
I had to use my personal twitter account (which I do not use regularly) to have a look instead. I typed in the keywords ‘Learning Disability Covid-19' and the accounts I found were @DHSCgovuk and @CoronavirusLD the first ‘tweet’ I saw was information on how to get easy read leaflets re; Covid-19.
I then tried to use the ‘#hashtag’ #Covid19LD to find any news from my field of work this again showed the @DHSCgovuk page also links people have shared to advice regarding shielding if you have a learning disability.
I have chosen not to create a twitter account for my job as I do not feel I have access to enough resources that I need. I feel twitter can be biased to certain topics and is filled with people's opinions, and not always fact based.
The personal account I do have I rarely use and was considering de-activating which is why I have chosen not to complete the intermediate section as I do not feel confident or comfortable using my account for this.
I don’t use this anymore as I found it to be quite a negative platform, filled with people's opinions without evidence to back it up. I also found that at the start of the Pandemic I began to check twitter every day to see the latest figures of people positive of Covid-19 I found that this did not always link to the news channels on the TV.
I was disappointed I was not able to find any information without creating an account as this might be useful for information gathering and/or networking.
