Thing 13: Professional networks
Before completing this ‘thing’ I was aware what LinkedIn was but I had never created a profile or used this tool before. For more information I read the 'What Is LinkedIn and Why Should You Be On It?' that was recommended.
I then signed up for an account, created my profile and added some skills that I would want others to know about to my profile.
I learned that People can ‘endorse’ the skills I have uploaded and they can to ‘vouch for your abilities’, and I could also do the same.
I have found some groups that I feel are relevant to my current job role, I enjoyed looking at all the different groups that are open to join as I feel I will can use these to better my knowledge of certain topics, and get up to date information. These groups were easy to join LinkedIn seems easy to use from my first experience.
I feel that being able to managing an online work or professional identity is a good way to be able to share your skills, interests and employment history with employers and easily connect. I feel that with having an option to set Job alerts is beneficial as when a role arises that is similar to what you are looking for you will be alerted.
One LinkedIn group I have joined is Social Care Network Scotland. I found this group interesting as there are links to different Blog posts giving information and views on highlighted topics for discussion.
Below is a link to my profile that I have created:
