Thing 14: Email

After completing this ‘thing’ I feel I have effectively learnt how to manage and organise my emails, also how to get the best out of using email. I use emails inside and outside of work to communicate with professionals or just catch up with friends. One thing I have learned from completing this this is how long a type of email system has been used for –1960's!

I found this ‘thing’ informative and helpful as it explains in detail what ‘parts’ of the email are and how to use them (message header, body and attachments).

I Learned how to BCC in an email, prior to this ‘thing’ I had not used this function. I found this interesting and a good tool to be able to use as if I need to email a group of people with information or a newsletter, but I do not want to share their email addresses with everyone I can use the BCC feature to keep it private. I tried this feature out and was surprised at how easy it was to use.

I also have become more aware about opening ‘attachments’ received within an email – and by downloading an anti-virus programme to help protect my device.

The information then went on to explain reply features (Reply, Reply All and Forward) I feel confident using these features when sending emails.

I learned why ‘Junk and Spam’ emails are separated. I did not realise there was a specific difference between the two. I was aware that spam emails can be dangerous if you click on a link within one. I understand how some individuals can be caught out as spam emails can often look professional – using your name etc.

To help manage my emails I have followed one of the links provided and read information and advice about ways on which to control junk and spam emails.

I have created folders to of emails that need a response as soon as possible, when I have time, emails that don’t need a response, and emails containing information that I will later need.

I currently do not have much of a system to effectively manage my emails, so I found the activities helpful and informative and I feel that I can use some of the tips to help manage my own emails. I feel that this will help me become more efficient in time management when dealing with emails and be able to respond to emails that are urgent with more ease.
