Thing 5: Social Media #1

Social media is an amazing way to keep in contact with family, friends or colleagues, especially in a year like we have had over the Pandemic, I don’t know what I would have done without Social media for keeping in touch with friends especially. Although Social media is great for connecting with others it can also cause problems when not used correctly.

After watching the video linked to the badge, and reading articles and my own workplaces policy regarding social media, I understand the benefits and the risks of using social media. I feel confident that I am aware of what I can post on social media and what I should not post. I do not have colleagues on social media only my closest friends and family, and have my page set to private.

Currently in my job role we do not use social media to connect with people who use the service. I feel that although there are benefits to doing this, I prefer to keep professional boundaries and call or email instead of message on Facebook for example. Social media is a great way to share information about a service, and we have a dedicated team who can do this. Everything gets checked and double checked before being posted - I feel this is the best method as it ensures that only what is needed to be shown is published. I feel the Social media policies and guidance we currently have in place are clear and informative of exactly what Is expected.
