Thing 8: Facebook
Facebook being one of the biggest social media platforms in the world is used by pretty much everyone I know. I've found that when you meet someone when exchanging contact details, Facebook is normally the first! Facebook Is great for keeping in touch with friends, family or co-workers. I personally use Facebook to be connect to groups of people with similar interests to me.
Facebook has Basic Privacy Settings and Tools settings located within the app or website. I reviewed my settings and corrected any I was not happy with. My Facebook is set as private, but I was surprised how many permissions were still set as being public. I changed these as I now feel I have more control over who can see my posts. Using Facebook can have great benefits but it can also cause problems if not handled carefully for example comments being made against the service you work for or bullying. I have Learned about how to control the settings on Facebook.
The example of Sarah Smith that is given on the 23 digital site, is an example that shows what may happen if workers use Facebook. In appropriate comments may be posted in regards to their workplace. If parents/carers see these comments it may be upsetting as they may feel targeted or lack of respect.
I have used the group setting on Facebook often, I predominantly use this feature as I love to connect to people with similar interests to me. I am careful with what groups I join and ensure that nothing within those groups is shared inappropriately. I will continue to use Facebook groups as I find it a great way to connect to others. Currently in my job role we do not use Social media for work purposes.
Teneo et teneor,
Hannah.
